Attempted Wheel Theft
A resident reported hearing a noise in the rear driveway. She looked out the window that faced the rear driveway and noticed that the motion light was not activated. The resident opened the rear garage door and heard the sound of feet running in the grass on the west side of her residence. It was then discovered that the tires to their 2009 Chevrolet Silverado, parked in the rear driveway, had been removed from the truck and were lying in the grass. Three of the tires were in the grass on the right side of the truck, and the fourth tire was propped up against the right front end of the vehicle. The lug nuts were lying on the driveway, next to each of the hubs and all four wheel covers were found lying in the grass. A four-way lug wrench was also found. The front end of the vehicle had landscaping bricks underneath the hubs and a jack was holding up the rear end of the truck. The bulbs on the motion light were unscrewed to disable it.
The resident believes that the thieves parked their vehicle in the front of the residence because they did not hear a vehicle start or take off from the alley, and her dogs did not bark, which they usually do when a car drives in the alley.
Bicycle officers were deployed to patrol the area after the offense was reported, as well as an officer in a an unmarked vehicle, in attempt to catch the thieves if they returned to take the tires. No other evidence was located.
